Week 4
Sunday, May 25, 2014 - Saturday, May 31, 2014

Weather

This week is warmer than last week, and a little more humid, with a little bit of fog drifting in from the lake most mornings that clears by eight or nine.

Events

Sunday: Everyone at the survey site is packing up to head back to Peridexion-- but there’s a bit of trouble on the way! The expedition only makes it back late in the evening, after mopping up said trouble… The log post for this event is here!
Saturday: Peridexion may just be getting started as a town, but the powers that be would like to make sure everyone's basic needs are seen to, spiritual as well as material and social. Morale is important and all. There will be a general meet-and-greet on Sunday afternoon (shades of a human-centric outlook, whether they'd like to admit it or not, which will provoke some grumbling), and everyone is invited to meet their chaplains. As well as government-sponsored spiritual advisers, some missionaries and volunteers will be attending, and are basically tolerated. New NPCs have been added to the Important People page!

Week 3
Sunday, May 18, 2014 - Saturday, May 24, 2014

Weather

It’s a pleasant week, this week: not too hot, not too cold, with a cool breeze coming from the northern forest and the only clouds occasional high, wispy things that don’t block the sunlight.

Events

Thursday: Those with wildlife, woods, and exploration experience, those in the military, and those with specific scientific expertise all leave today on a planned expedition to survey several square miles of land. The trip will last from Thursday, bright and early, through Sunday. They will leave on dragonback, along with all the supplies they’re expected to need. If you’re unsure if your character could be brought along on this trip and you’d like them to, please let the mods know! Otherwise, feel free to assume they signed up.
Saturday: For those not going on the survey expedition, there’s a general “field trip” scheduled for today down to the lake. A bus is scheduled for transportation, but so are a pair of dragons. There will be free food, various water activities in and on the lake itself, and fairly strict track kept of everyone’s comings and goings. Don’t wander off, or you may find yourself corralled back to the group.

Week 2
Sunday, May 11, 2014 - Saturday, May 17, 2014

Weather

The rain that the humidity last week hinted at shows up, but lasts only for one afternoon, Sunday, and then the temperatures go back up into the low 80s and the sky is almost entirely clear. Wednesday a breeze picks up, warm and coming down off the mountains, bringing with it a few scudding clouds and the scent of pine, but not much else.

Events

Monday: The general work of getting the city up and running starts today. Shops start to open, businesses opening offices in the city can start churning through their to-do lists, doctors can open their doors, those signed up for farm work full-time get to settle in at the farm they’re assigned, and the government-funded science labs start to get their goals and experiments set up. The YMCA and half-finished dragon hatchery both also open today. The military, which has been here for weeks already, just goes back to its standard routine of practice and patrol, though there’s word that there will be a scouting trip next week, the first one heading into the mountains.
Thursday: At 4:45AM, before most people’s alarms even go off, the power goes out, even for devices that run on motors and batteries. Good luck getting to work on time. Magical and non-mechanical devices work just fine, so if you have your built-in backups already set, you’re good to go. The city puts out a bulletin through people’s mirrors at 8:30AM that they’re investigating the power failure and to not be alarmed.
Friday: Power returns in the morning around 10AM, to cars, flashlights, and air conditioners alike-- just in time for Dark Heart, one of currently only two local bars and the only local club, to have its opening bash without having to resort to desperate measures to turn on the music. The doors open at 8PM, and the age limit, for tonight, is set at 18… though anyone who looks too young will be carded when asking for alcohol. A mingle log will go up for this with further details.

Hey folks! This is a combined intro/hiatus post because robots like efficiency.

Intro: Hello my name is The Guindo and I bring you Duncan Heimdall Jackson, a 28-year-old freshly licensed MD with absolutely no dragon/fae/etc heritage. He's a bog-standard human who barely understands magic and certainly can't perform any. He's also one of the town's only doctors! So, you know, have fun with that.

Personality-wise he's kind of a nervous angry chihuahua. His favourite hobby is complaining and he's really good at sticking his foot in his mouth by speaking before he thinks. He also knows that you don't exactly have much choice of doctor in this place, so he's not quite as careful about his professionalism here as he maybe should be. But if he likes you, he'll be the most loyal friend you'll ever have.

As for me, I am a ninja robot who likes RPing dorks and losers, and you can add me on plurk at [plurk.com profile] ninjarobotclone if you're so inclined.

Hiatus: Speaking of myself! I am currently in the process of moving from California to Texas, and I'm leaving Thursday afternoon to drive all my worldly possessions + 2 cats three states away. I will be unavailable until Monday at the earliest but I'm gonna call it 6th through 13th just to be safe. I'll see you lovely folks next week!

Welcome!

Hi all! Borders is now open for business! :) I'm Gail, one of your mods, on one of my character accounts. This is Haro, a very friendly and enthusiastic quarter-dragon scout-slash-spy with a small (for a dragon) and fluffy white dragon friend who tends to be testy and pretends to be prim even though she's totally not. My other character is a Taker fae by the name of Santiani who is really Haro's complete opposite in most respects.

I'm available via email (cacopheny@gmail), plurk (cacopheny), and AIM (throughoblivion) if anybody has any questions or concerns. I think you all know me pretty well so far, at this point, anyway XD

I hope you all have fun here!

Week 1
Sunday, May 4, 2014 - Saturday, May 10, 2014

Welcome to Peridexion! Everyone arriving this weekend will be guided to their homes personally by one of the city’s officials-- though there may be a bit of a wait at the landing platforms! Each arrival is given a folder of materials, including: a letter of welcome from the mayor; a detailed map of the city and what locations are currently staffed and operational, both government related and private enterprise; an even more detailed layout of their assigned house along with instructions on using all amenities magical, electrical, and mundane; a pamphlet on what to do if the electricity goes out, which seems to suggest it occurs often enough to need a pamphlet; a fat booklet of regulations set out by the local police office; and a schedule for the week’s activities.

Weather
The weather is warm but muggy for the first part of the week, with temperature highs in the mid-80s, the skies partly cloudy and the wind warm coming off the plains. It cools down a bit after Wednesday, averaging in the low 70s, and the clouds thicken up a bit by Saturday, but there is thankfully no rain. Yet, anyway.

Events
Sunday: The last of the transports arrive today, dropping off the last of this wave’s settlers. The first of the tours and orientation meetings start today, as well, for those who have already been here a day or two. Everyone is assigned to a tour and orientation group over the next couple of days, though if they don’t show, there’s no punishment.
Wednesday: Work starts today, but not at the jobs people actually came here for. Today through Friday are planting days, where everyone who is able is assigned to one of the farms outside the city walls to start off the harvest. Those who can’t actually walk the fields or drive the tractors (or the teams of horses, depending on what farm it is) get to dole out seeds, manage lunches, and otherwise help organize.
Saturday: A well-deserved day off! There is a picnic dinner at the park at the end of the fay block in the Knolls, organized by the local church groups, with fay-safe barbecue and salad, some music piped in with a little room for dancing if anyone cares to, and even some games for the kids. Or the grown-up kids, for that matter.

A place to try out your OCs and see how well they fit in the setting :3 Yes, threads from this meme may be used in your application, if they accurately portray the character you’re applying.

Scenarios:

~ Meet and Greet: The Knolls is having a little barbeque dinner at the small park out by the fay’s block, and everyone’s invited! Seeing as there’s not that many people here yet, it seems like a good time to get to know some of your neighbors.

~ On the Farm: Not everyone is assigned farm labor most of the time, but today everyone else’s job is put on hold, to get some crops sown in time for an autumn harvest. Don’t worry, instructions are provided, and there’s some experts around to make sure you don’t mess up too badly with that plow or that tractor!

~ Tech’s Out: Oops, looks like your electricity isn’t working in your building, whether your house, your shop, or your office. Again. Time to turn on the gas lights and check on the neighbors.

~ Scouting Trip: The call goes out for volunteers to go on a scouting foray, to forage for a specific herb, survey a particular territory’s potential resources, or just fill out a group making a first exploration into an unmapped square mile. Are you prepared for trouble?

~ Bar Fight: Someone said the wrong thing or just had one too many, and now a hot room full of mixed company and improvised weapons is about to blow. Sure, you’ve got about a minute before the authorities show up, or just the scary bartender, but you can make it count.
